Blue Sky's Peanuts Trailer: Lucy's Setup the Football - Now What?

While it looks true to the source material, it's probably a safe bet that Snoopy won't be fighting a lawn chair any time soon...

20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Animation (the studio that brought you the Ice Age films and... the Ice Age films) have been long at work on a rebooted CG animation-based Peanuts to introduce the property to a whole-new generation of fans. The first-look trailer was supposed to be released at Thanksgiving, but apparently leaked a little early giving us our first glimpse at the series in motion.

The trailer definitely gets quite a bit right: keeping the animation to the same 2D-plane that's true to the Sunday strips as well as the classic Bill Melendez fueled television specials. The little bit of cloudy marshmallow-like depth that's been added to the almost painted look really makes the animation pop while also feeling familiar, and I actually really dig it.

But, as many have pointed out, as soon as a Disney Radio sounding pop song kicks in things start to get a little hairy and the trailer ventures into Jim Carrey A Christmas Carol territory. It makes sense that Snoopy's ride is a flight of fancy (no pun intended) but as soon as it becomes a music video inspired "HEY KIDS, PUT ON YOUR 3D GLASSES!" moment, you can't help but shift in your seat a little bit and worry. But all-in-all, I'm feeling pretty positive about what we'll be seeing up on the movie screens this time next year.

Still though, die-hard fans take take comfort in knowing that Charles Schulz's son Craig, whom I actually had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing when working on the You're a Good Sport, Charlie Brown DVD bonus features, is one of the co-writers of the film along with his son Bryan Schulz. That's two generations of Schulz family working together to keep the family legacy going. And no stranger to reboots that need to stay true to the source material Paul Feig is producing.

The new Peanuts film will be released November 5, 2015.

New Live-Action Destiny Trailer from Joe Kosinski Teases Launch

Get ready to become a legend with Destiny, releasing September 9th on PS4 and Xbox One.

Bungie and Activision have released an all-new trailer today to get people hyped for the Destiny's release next week. It's a live-action trailer highlighting the different locales throughout the game, also focusing on the co-op nature of the game itself.

The trailer is directed by Joseph Kosinski, director of Tron Legacy and Oblivion and adding to the excitement of the trailer are the voice of Peter Dinklage as Ghost and several as-of-yet unidentified actors which I'll update once they have been confirmed.

Check it out, what do you think? Personally, I think that the trailer captures the look and feel of the previous animated marketing but knowing that it is the work of Kosinski, and being a huge fan of his, it feels like it's missing just that extra bit of his trademark style and flair. Regardless, it's a fun quick tease that only makes the wait until Amazon delivers my copy to my door that much longer.

Star Wars: Rebels - Comic-Con Trailer "A Look Ahead"

You came in that thing? You're crazier than I thought.

The first true day of Comic-Con brought quite a few surprises, new trailers, new announcements. Out of the pack, what has excited me the most is a lengthy trailer for Star Wars: Rebels that has me with one shot (seen above).

Check out "A Look Ahead" which evokes more of the Star Wars look and feel than all of the previous trailers combined.

New Extended Trailer for Star Wars: Rebels

TK-421, what is your origin story? The public must know!

Lucasfilm and Disney XD released a new 2:27 trailer for their forthcoming animated series Star Wars: Rebels today. Presumably this is part of their ramp up to the San Diego Comic-Con where I'm sure a great deal of information on the series will be released.

The series still appears to be aimed for a younger audience, and looks to be much lighter in tone than the Clone Wars series (especially the later sixth Netflix-exclusive season, which was particularly dark but absolutely fantastic). This trailer emphasizes the fun and adventure while stressing that we'll be seeing things through the young eyes of Ezra, who is pulled into the Rebellion Joseph Campbell-style. There's lots of great imagery and luckily, this trailer doesn't have any difficulty evoking that classic Star Wars feel, which was one of the biggest complains about the prequel trilogy.

Star Wars: Rebels premieres on Disney XD (which means if you're like me and on Dish Network, you'll be watching in glorious standard definition... gross) this October.
